“The Beer Up Here” Celebrates Northern Drinking Culture

The Beer Up Here festival is a celebration of northern drinking culture.

Craft beer festivals in England often focus on the weird and wonderful, in small measures, from all over the world. We all love a great beer festival, but sometimes you want a pint.

The Beer Up Here has been created to celebrate the fantastic beer being dreamed up by local breweries. How local? This festival is strictly Northern. Three regional bars across three days will include a constant Greater Manchester bar and two bars rotating through:

  • Lancashire
  • Yorkshire
  • Cumbria
  • Scotland
  • North Wales
  • Northern Ireland
  • Derbyshire
  • Liverpool
  • Cheshire

Plus collaborations between local breweries and brewers from the USA and more southerly parts of the country.

Where is it?

The Beer Up Here will be held at Fairfield Social Club in Manchester.

Pints, Pints, Pints

90% of the beers on offer at the festival will be 5% ABV and under, enabling you to sup pints like a true northerner. Exclaiming “Ee heck” or “Blimmin’ lovely, that” after each sip is totally optional, but encouraged.

The remaining 10% will be specials up to 9.9% ABV, which will thankfully, I’m sure you’ll agree, not be served in pints.

Beers served will be a mixture of cask and keg.

This will be an incredible showcase of the great variety of beers being created “up here”, and not just due to wild and weird innovation. #mildculture will definitely be making itself known, with plenty of breweries offering up bitters, milds, porters and stouts. (Yes, Brass Castle Hazlenut Mild is down to make an appearance.)

GRUB, the organisers of The Beer Up Here say: “This is not a super crafty festival designed to impress the most nerdy 1% of the beer world…some of the bigger breweries and the more exotic end of the craft beer spectrum will mostly be absent in favour of classic beer styles (or simple, modern twists on them) from breweries that don’t get on to taps in Manchester as much as they should.”
